A Flower in the Garden of the World
The Korean Wave has shown that the songs and stories of a small nation can move the heart of the world. The Bahá’í Writings do not erase the culture of any people; they see each as one flower in a single garden, adding to the beauty of humanity. The true glory of a culture lies in its power to unite the world and uplift the soul.

Consider the flowers of a garden: though differing in kind, color, form and shape, yet, inasmuch as they are refreshed by the waters of one spring, revived by the breath of one wind, invigorated by the rays of one sun, this diversity increaseth their charm, and addeth unto their beauty. Thus when that unifying force, the penetrating influence of the Word of God, taketh effect, the difference of customs, manners, habits, ideas, opinions and dispositions embellisheth the world of humanity.

It does not ignore, nor does it attempt to suppress, the diversity of ethnical origins, of climate, of history, of language and tradition, of thought and habit, that differentiate the peoples and nations of the world. … Its watchword is unity in diversity.”

The East must acquire material civilization from the West, and the West must receive spiritual civilization from the East. This will establish a mutual bond. When these two come together, the world of humanity will present a glorious aspect, and extraordinary progress will be achieved.

It is certain that with the spread of the spirit of Bahá’u’lláh a new era will dawn in art and literature. Whereas before the form was perfect but the spirit was lacking, now there will be a glorious spirit embodied in a form immeasurably improved by the quickened genius of the world.

Bahá’ís should obviously be encouraged to preserve their inherited cultural identities, as long as the activities involved do not contravene the principles of the Faith. The perpetuation of such cultural characteristics is an expression of unity in diversity. 2.
Stars of the Heaven of Understanding
K-pop idols shine on the world stage through years of training and remarkable talent, yet behind the lights lie contests of appearance, punishing schedules and the anxiety of fleeting fame. Bahá’u’lláh reminds us that true nobility lies not in the spotlight but in the inner virtues God has given.

O Children of Negligence! Set not your affections on mortal sovereignty and rejoice not therein. Ye are even as the unwary bird that with full confidence warbleth upon the bough; till of a sudden the fowler Death throweth it upon the dust, and the melody, the form and the color are gone, leaving not a trace. Wherefore take heed, O bondslaves of desire!

If people only realized it, the inner life of the spirit is that which counts, but they are so blinded by desires and so misled that they have brought upon themselves all the suffering we see at present in the world. The Bahá’ís seek to lead people back to a knowledge of their true selves and the purpose for which they were created, and thus to their greatest happiness and highest good. 3.
Love Me, That I May Love Thee
Fandom can create astonishing devotion, solidarity and generosity, yet it can also raise a person to the status of an idol or turn into attacks on rival fans. The Writings point to God as the deepest source of love, and ask that love flow into loving one another rather than into tearing others down.

The Drama Is of the Utmost Importance
Korean dramas have moved the world to tears with the loves, wounds and reconciliations of ordinary people. ‘Abdu’l‑Bahá called drama a great educational power, and Shoghi Effendi saw in stories a means to expose the ills of society and show the way to their remedy.

What you could do, and should do, is to use your stories to become a source of inspiration and guidance for those who read them. With such a means at your disposal you can spread the spirit and teachings of the Cause; you can show the evils that exist in society, as well as the way they can be remedied. If you possess a real talent in writing you should consider it as given by God and exert your efforts to use it for the betterment of society.

Art Is Worship

That is to say, when thy fingers grasp the paintbrush, it is as if thou wert at prayer in the Temple.

A Ladder for the Soul

One Language, One Script

When this is achieved, to whatsoever city a man may journey, it shall be as if he were entering his own home.

Every word is endowed with a spirit, therefore the speaker or expounder should carefully deliver his words at the appropriate time and place, for the impression which each word maketh is clearly evident and perceptible. The Great Being saith: One word may be likened unto fire, another unto light, and the influence which both exert is manifest in the world. Therefore an enlightened man of wisdom should primarily speak with words as mild as milk, that the children of men may be nurtured and edified thereby and may attain the ultimate goal of human existence which is the station of true understanding and nobility. And likewise He saith: One word is like unto springtime causing the tender saplings of the rose-garden of knowledge to become verdant and flourishing, while another word is even as a deadly poison.

The Great Being saith: Human utterance is an essence which aspireth to exert its influence and needeth moderation. As to its influence, this is conditional upon refinement which in turn is dependent upon hearts which are detached and pure. As to its moderation, this hath to be combined with tact and wisdom as prescribed in the Holy Scriptures and Tablets. 8.
Courtesy, the Prince of Virtues
Honorific speech is a beautiful courtesy that lifts up the other person, yet hierarchy by age and rank, carried too far, can silence those below. Bahá’u’lláh made courtesy the prince of virtues, and at the same time declared that before the Word of God all people are equal in rank.

As families gather at Seollal and Chuseok to share food and give thanks, the Bahá’í community keeps holy days such as Naw-Rúz and Riḍván. Bahá’u’lláh asked that festive days bring good cheer not only to oneself and one’s kin but also to the poor and needy.

Shamanic rites, fortune tellers and talismans seem to offer comfort and a sense of control in anxious times, and shamanism has long been a folk religion that soothed the han of the suffering. ‘Abdu’l‑Bahá taught that religion contrary to reason and science becomes superstition, and He leads us out of faith bound by fear into true faith that trusts in God.

Saju palja tries to read a person’s destiny from the year, month, day and hour of birth. ‘Abdu’l‑Bahá distinguishes irrevocable fate from conditional fate, and calls the deductions of the old astrologers figments of the imagination, while affirming that all parts of the universe are linked and influence one another. Our part is not to fear the stars but to trust in God and strive.

Thou hadst asked about fate, predestination and will. Fate and predestination consist in the necessary and indispensable relationships which exist in the realities of things. These relationships have been placed in the realities of existent beings through the power of creation and every incident is a consequence of the necessary relationship. For example, God hath created a relation between the sun and the terrestrial globe that the rays of the sun should shine and the soil should yield. These relationships constitute predestination, and the manifestation thereof in the plane of existence is fate. Will is that active force which controlleth these relationships and these incidents. Such is the epitome of the explanation of fate and predestination.

The Guardian agrees with you that the Bahá’ís should be very careful not to criticize or rather attack the church. As we believe the church of Rome to be the inheritor, so to speak, of Christ’s teachings, the direct line, however perverted by men’s doctrines, it certainly does not befit us to show antagonism towards it. 21.
A Precious Being Who Established the Oneness of God
For more than sixteen centuries Buddhism has shaped the Korean heart, leaving the stillness of mountain temples, compassion and the teaching of letting go of attachment. ‘Abdu’l‑Bahá speaks of the Buddha as a precious Being Who established the oneness of God, in Whom the light of truth shone as it shone in Moses and Jesus, while noting that over time the original teaching was veiled by ritual and the worship of images.

Consider the sun. How feeble its rays the moment it appeareth above the horizon. How gradually its warmth and potency increase as it approacheth its zenith, enabling meanwhile all created things to adapt themselves to the growing intensity of its light. How steadily it declineth until it reacheth its setting point. Were it, all of a sudden, to manifest the energies latent within it, it would, no doubt, cause injury to all created things. 27.
Neither the Praise of the People
Chemyeon, saving face, and nunchi, reading the room, can be a wisdom that keeps a community in harmony, yet the fear of others’ eyes can also make us hide the truth and endlessly judge one another. The Writings make truthfulness the foundation of all virtues and bid us look to our own faults rather than those of others.

As to backbiting, the House of Justice points out that learning not to concern oneself with the faults of others seems to be one of the most difficult lessons for people to master, and that failing in this is a fertile cause of disputes among Bahá’ís as it is among men and women in general. 28.
Of One Tree Are All Ye the Fruit
The Korean word uri, "we," carries the warmth of mutual belonging, but when its fence grows narrow it becomes a wall shutting out those beyond it. Bahá’u’lláh taught us to glory not in love of country alone but in love of the whole world, and ‘Abdu’l‑Bahá urged us not to imitate the beliefs of our ancestors but to investigate truth for ourselves.

Consider the people and nations of the earth today and observe this same tenacious allegiance to ancestral belief. He whose father was a Zoroastrian is a Zoroastrian. That Which Stealeth Reason Away
Company dinners that run on to second and third rounds of drinking have become part of Korean working life, and alcohol is both a means of fellowship and the grief of many families. Bahá’u’lláh declared it inadmissible that man, endowed with reason, should consume what steals it away, and Bahá’ís abstain entirely from alcohol and habit-forming drugs.

Moderation in All Things
Koreans greet one another with "Have you eaten?" and feel jeong in sharing a meal. Yet the age of plenty has also brought overeating, mukbang and the cult of gourmet food. The Writings teach that whatever passes beyond the limits of moderation becomes harmful, and foresee simple foods as a path to health of body and mind.

Strength of Body, Nobility of Spirit
Korean athletes have brought joy to the nation with astonishing grit at the Olympics and the World Cup, yet there is also the shadow of winning at all costs and of overwork. ‘Abdu’l‑Bahá tells us not to neglect the health of the body, and teaches that true progress comes when the training of the body goes together with the growth of the spirit.
